Understand how Birmingham developed and see that many of today’s ways of working have deep roots in our past. A real investigation into today's city in the context of the history of this centre of the industrial revolution now facing up to the future in a determined way. In particular we explore:
• Earlier times – medieval origins
• From Georgian entrepreneurs to Victorian idealists
• Jewellery Quarter
• Canal city
• An artistic side
• Today's city developing for the future.
This 2 hour walking tour gives a great introduction to the city and will be of interest equally to local people and visitors alike.

We start here and introduce the tour. We learn a lot about the city from things in and around the Square.
We enter the Jewellery Quarter by a secret canal route that even locals do not use. We learn about the way the Jewellery Quarter developed and the different types of business that developed from Gergian times. We see the way the modern Quarter is taking its place in today's city.
Known as the Jewellery Quarter church we view the outside of this lovely 1779 example of Georgian architecture.
We look at this fine English Baroque cathedral. On occasions if there is time and not conflciting events we may go in and experience the Edward Burne-Jones stained glass
We view St Chads from the inner ring road. We appreciate only too well the issues with post-war redevelopment when the car was king. We decide for ourselves if Birmingham has a planned redevelopment.
Having seen St Philip's Cathedral and lots more in between we return towards the Library of Birmingham by several important city Squares.
We see this renovated square and understand more about the way the modern city is reconfiguring for the future.
