DELPHI ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
Inset on wide terraces along the hillside we are fortunate that the landslides of previous centuries preserved much of the ancient remains for us, including the Castilian spring of Mythology, Ancient theater, treasury buildings, temples of Athena and Gymnasium where athletes gathered before the Pythian games to bathe in the sacred waters.
During your visit to Delphi, you can still see the physical structures associated with this incredibly long history including the 4th century BC temple of Apollo, the epicenter of the mystical ceremony from where the Oracle spoke her prophecies.
DELPHI ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
A beautiful addition to the site is the modern museum which displays finds stretching back in time to at least 1500 BC, including many of the sculptures & other unique pieces that adorned the temples & streets of the ancient city at its peak around the 4th century BC. Outstanding pieces include the Naxos Sphynx, the twin Kouroi, and famous Bronze Charioteer among others.
After visiting the Archaeological Site, your driver will transfer you to meet your local activity specialist to commence this part of your day.
HIKING OR BIKING ACTIVITY.
We follow a downhill path and a rural road from Delphi to the edge of Chrisso village. The ancient city of Crissa hosted the visitors of the oracle and following the footsteps of ancient pilgrims, we continue our tour in the heart of the famous Crisaean olive grove. We will enjoy the unique scenery, οbserve the silver-green foliage of the olive trees changing colors depending on the time of the day and admire the naturally carved trunks of impressive centennial trees. We will savor a delicious olive snack in the shade of an old chapel and learn how olives are cultivated and why the olive tree is a worldwide symbol of immortality, wisdom and abundance.
OLIVE OIL WORKSHOP.
Delphi valley hosts more than 1,5 million olive trees. French Archeologists have called the valley “La Mer des Oliviers”, “The Sea of Olive Trees” with many over 1000 years old and a History of Cultivation stretching much further back in time.
The valley is nowadays protected and listed as a worldwide unique landscape by UNESCO. Meet our Local Guide who will explain all about olive culture and the transformation process to edible olives & olive oil. Taste different sorts of olives, virgin olive oil and olive tapenade & understand the differences in their production and quality along with their many famous health benefits against the backdrop of the slopes of Mt Parnassus and the Delphi Valley.
RETURN TO ATHENS
After your activity, your driver will be ready to start your return safely back to Athens.
