Detailed itinerary

1

The monument, which sits atop a hill surrounded by trash heaps and unfinished homes, depicts a man, woman, and child who are ostensibly meant to be African yet look glaringly like chiseled Soviet caricatures. The statue would not be quite so alarming if it were not for its sheer size, topping out at over 160 feet of bronze nationalism or a little more than half the height of the Statue of Liberty. This makes it the tallest statue in Africa.
But the visit inside the monument is extra charged

2

The Mosque of Divinity, built in 1997, is a mosque located in Ouakam, Senegal. It is a structure with two minarets. The mosque provides a view of the Atlantic Ocean, as the mosque lies near the shore, at the Corniche-Ouest.

3

Sandaga market was built in 1935. Its architecture reminds the Arabian Sudanese style of Timbuktu in Mali. Its decoration is a mixture of Arabian and African styles with arabesques and geometrical drawings.

4

The Palace of the Republic, residence of the President of the Republic, is a historic manor located in the Plateau district of Dakar, capital city of Senegal. Built in 1902, the Palace used to be the official residence of the Governor General of French West Africa.

5

The Kermel market is a very beautiful building from 1860 - a beautiful round wrought iron and brick hall of Arabic inspiration - which was ravaged by fire in 1994, and rebuilt identically in 1997, classified as a historical monument. The large clock at the entrance to the market used to ring the closing bell at noon on the dot. At the Kermel market, one can find all the food products and is frequented by Westerners looking for the best products of the city since its creation

Stop 6

The island of Gorée lies off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. From the 15th to the 19th century, it was the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast. Ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French, its architecture is characterized by the contrast between the grim slave-quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders. Today it continues to serve as a reminder of human exploitation and as a sanctuary for reconciliation.
