The house is one of the most solemn and majestic examples of what the home of a member of the Pompeian aristocracy must have looked like. It owes its name to the visit of royals Umberto I and Margaret of Savoy on the day of their silver wedding celebration in 1893.
this house belonged to the banker of Pompeii, and his entire archives consisting of 154 waxed writing tablets dating between 53 and 62 A.D. were found intact. The insula 12 of "Casti Amanti" consists of several dwellings and a bakery. The insula takes its name from the decoration of a triclinium with paintings depicting three banquets set at as many times of the year, including the summer one with the exchange of the languid kiss between two lovers.
In the stable attached to the bakery, the skeletons of the mules used to turn the millstones present and load the grain needed to make bread were found
