Overview
The Istanbul City Walls, also known as the Walls of Constantinople, are a series of defensive stone walls that have protected the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople) since their construction in 413 AD. They were a major factor in several battles throughout history, including the Arab sieges and Crusades, and were instrumental in the defense of the city until the gunpowder era.
The walls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are considered one of the most impressive examples of ancient defensive architecture.
