Overview
The Holy Stairs (Scala Sancta) are a set of 28 marble steps that, according to Christian tradition, are the stairs that led to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem, and were sanctified by the footsteps of Jesus Christ as he climbed them on the way to his trial.
The Holy Stairs are considered one of the most sacred sites in Rome, attracting pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
